There are many easy and affordable ways to prevent STIs.

- Condoms

- Preventative Vaccines (HPV)

- Getting tested regularly, especially when engaging with new partners

Although all these methods can reduce the chance of infection, abstinence (not having sexual relations) is the only guaranteed method to preventing infection.

How do I get tested?

STI testing is simple and non-invasive. STI testing can involve peeing in a cup for a urine test, blood tests, pap smears, vaginal/anal swab, or an oral swab. Test results can come back in as soon as an hour, or can take up to a couple days.

An important part of getting tested is making sure your partner/partners are also getting tested and learning how to stay safe*1.
