HIV

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a viral infection which cannot be treated through antibiotic. HIV can be spread through shared blood and contact, however the most common form of transmission is through sexual contact. Additionally, HIV can be congenital, which means that HIV can be passed from mother to fetus during pregnancy.

HIV often presents in flu-like symptoms, such as fevers, headaches, and sore throats. When left untreated, HIV can become acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which compromises the immune system.

Treatment for HIV includes antiretroviral therapy (ART) medication, which is prescribed based on symptoms.
